Independent Review and Global Research for Australia’s Modernising Business Registers Program

the challenge

In 2023, the Australian Government announced an independent review of the Modernising Business Registers (MBR Program). It was designed to ensure investment in the core national economic infrastructure was delivered within a reasonable timeframe and budget. The Treasury identified a need for global comparative research to provide a comprehensive understanding of the program recommendations.

the process

Together with the Paper Giant team, Samantha was tasked with desktop research and comparative analysis of global jurisdictions. The project was conducted over 12-weeks to contribute to a recommendation for digital transformation. In a team of senior government officials, financial experts and advisors, the research and recommendations were collected and collated for Ministers before a public release at the end of the 2202/23 financial year.

the outcome

In partnership with fellow consultants, the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) and the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), Paper Giant collaborated to produce a Final Report recommending the cessation of the MBR program. Subsequent media updates were published in the Guardian and the Sydney Morning Herald.
